How To Create A Cozy (Hygge) Space In Your Home

Hygge is a Danish term that simply means cozy, or comfortable and just all around good vibes.
You can create a cozy, positive and care-free space in your home that makes
you feel relaxed and at peace. Your home should be where you feel the most safe.

Get Comfy with Cozy Blankets

I love getting comfortable on the couch after a long day with a warm, cozy blanket. In my opinion, the softer the blanket the better! You can find cozy blankets at any budget at Target, Amazon, Home Goods or Pottery Barn. My favorite blanket actually came from Sam’s Club!

Keep a Gratitude Journal

Creating a cozy (Hygge) home is all about embracing thankfulness. Begin each morning by writing down three things you are most grateful for. Try to have three different things each day. You will be amazed how much we truly have to be thankful for.

My favorite journal is Deep Waters: Peaceful Encouragement for the Anxious Heart. Deep Waters: Peaceful Encouragement for the Anxious Heart

Take Your Meals Outside

We love being outdoors, especially during the spring and summer months. Part of creating a cozy home is embracing God’s beautiful creation and enjoying nature. Instead of taking your meals indoors why not try a family picnic in your backyard or patio? To make it extra special, invite your family and close friends over for a backyard BBQ.

Afternoon Tea Time

When visiting Northern Ireland I learned the importance of having afternoon tea. Why not adopt this relaxing trend in your home too. Pick a time in the afternoon and make yourself a cup of your favorite tea, maybe grab a healthy snack, sit in your favorite chair and just allow yourself to relax. You will love this new tradition in your home!

Relaxing Diffuser Recipe

Twinkling lights or candles is a big part of creating a Hygge home. Because we have chosen to not use candles in our home we use an essential oil diffuser instead. We receive lots of wonderful health benefits by diffusing good quality essential oils and it is so much safer too. Not all essential oils are created equal, so be sure to do your research. If you don’t want to guess which oil company to use I can help you with finding the best match that works for you. Here is my favorite relaxing diffuser recipe to help you unwind after a long day.

Cozy Living Room

3 drops Orange
2 drops Thieves
2 drops Copaiba
1 drop Peppermint

Add water to your diffuser and add each of the drops. Turn the diffuser on, set the LED light to flickering and sit back and relax.
What are a few ways you enjoy incorporating a cozy home?
