Rediscovering Vision and Priorities as a Proverbs 31 Woman
Have you ever looked at the Proverbs 31 woman and thought: She’s just too perfect, there’s no way I could ever measure up? I’ll admit it - for years, I carried that mindset too. The Proverbs 31 woman felt more like an unattainable standard than an inspiring picture of Biblical womanhood. But recently, as I’ve been working through Elizabeth George’s book Beautiful in God’s Eyes, my perspective has shifted.

I’ve come to see the Proverbs 31 woman in a new light; not as a flawless woman with superhuman abilities, but as a visionary woman who prioritizes her family, dreams with courage, and aligns her life with God’s wisdom. And that realization has begun reshaping the way I view my own priorities, dreams, and vision for the life God has entrusted me with.

When My Priorities Got Twisted
I’ve always been a passionate, hardworking, and creative person. Entrepreneurship runs through my veins (and even in my family), and I love dreaming big, building ideas, and pouring into my business. But if I’m honest, I’ve often let my business come first - before my marriage, before my home, and sometimes before my relationship with God.

I didn’t do this intentionally, of course. It just happened gradually. A client deadline here, a launch there, another late night of planning content, writing a new blog, or strategizing, and before I knew it, I was living with my priorities upside down.

Reading Beautiful in God’s Eyes stopped me in my tracks. As I underlined passages and reflected on the Proverbs 31 woman’s life, I realized that I had been operating backwards. She didn’t put her career or her creativity ahead of her household; she integrated them. She considered her family’s needs first, and only pursued opportunities that fit into the bigger picture of building her home and honoring God. That realization hit me hard. My marriage and home are not “extras” to squeeze in around my business. They are my God-given priorities. My business is important, yes, but it’s meant to serve my life, not consume it.

The Proverbs 31 Woman: A Visionary, Not a Perfectionist
What’s struck me most about the Proverbs 31 woman is that she was not just practical, she was visionary. She wasn’t simply managing tasks; she was dreaming of what could bless her family and then taking wise, creative steps to make those dreams come true. She evaluated opportunities carefully: Was there enough time? Was there enough money? Would this decision strengthen or strain her home? She considered her husband’s vision and worked alongside him as a teammate. She stewarded her finances and her time in ways that blessed the people she loved.

This picture of the Proverbs 31 woman challenges us to think bigger about our own lives. She wasn’t defined by hustle culture. She wasn’t chasing every shiny opportunity. She was purposeful, prayerful, and profoundly creative. She dared to dream, but her dreams weren’t self-centered. They were rooted in love and service to her family. That’s the kind of woman I want to become.

Encouragement for You: You Don’t Have to Be Perfect to Be Faithful
If you’re reading this and feeling the weight of guilt, like you’ve gotten your priorities out of order or wasted time chasing the wrong things, I want you to hear this: you don’t have to be perfect to be faithful. God isn’t asking you to nail down a flawless routine or prove yourself through endless work. He’s inviting you into alignment with His priorities. He wants you to experience the joy of building your life, your family, and your business with Him at the center.

It’s not too late to dream again. It’s not too late to reimagine your vision for your family and your business. It’s not too late to release the pressure of striving and step into the peace of stewarding.

Application: Reflection Questions for Priorities, Vision, and Dreams
One of the ways I’ve been processing these lessons from Beautiful in God's Eyes is through journaling. When I slow down to write, I can hear God’s whisper and see His perspective so much more clearly. If you’re ready to rethink your priorities and dream again, here are some questions you can bring to the Lord in your own quiet time:

  1. Where have I been putting business or ambition ahead of my family or home?
  2. What dreams has God placed on my heart that would bless not only me, but the people He’s entrusted to me?
  3. How can I use my creativity and gifts in ways that serve my family’s vision, not compete with it?
  4. In what areas do I need to shift from hustle to stewardship?
  5. What small step could I take this week to align my life more closely with God’s priorities?
Write your answers honestly. Pray through them. You may be surprised by the clarity God brings when you give Him space to reorder your heart.

Why This Matters for Christian Women in Business
Here’s the truth - as Christian women in business, we live in a tension. We have real callings, clients, and goals, and yet we’re also called to love our families, honor our homes, and stay rooted in the Lord. It’s not always easy to know what balance looks like or if it even exists. But what I’ve learned from the Proverbs 31 woman, and from my own missteps, is that our businesses will flourish more when they’re built from overflow, not from neglect. That’s why I created my course, Lead from the Overflowto help women like us step out of striving and into sustainable, faith-led routines that honor God, our families, and our work. When we dream with God and prioritize His order for our lives, our work becomes more fruitful and sustainable.

So if you’ve been hustling endlessly, doubting yourself, or feeling like you’re always behind, take a breath. God is reminding you that your home matters, your marriage matters, and your health matters. And your business can thrive without being the center of your world.

Final Thoughts: Becoming Beautiful in God’s Eyes
The Proverbs 31 woman is not a myth or a model of perfection. She is a woman who aligned her heart with God’s wisdom, prioritized her family, dared to dream, and lived with purpose. That same invitation is available to us today. We don’t have to sacrifice our marriages, homes, or well-being on the altar of hustle culture. We can live as women who create, lead, and dream all while staying deeply rooted in what matters most. And here’s the best part, we don’t have to do it all in our own strength. God is the one who shapes us into women of virtue, women of vision, and women who are truly beautiful in His eyes.
