Evergreen vs. Trendy Content: How to Balance Both in Your Strategy
When it comes to growing your business online, not all content is created equal. Some posts catch fire quickly and then fade away (trendy content), while others keep showing up, month after month, year after year (evergreen content). The secret to a sustainable business strategy isn’t choosing one or the other; it’s learning how to use both in harmony.

As Christian women in business, we don’t want to spend all of our time chasing algorithms or constantly reinventing the wheel. We want a strategy that works with us, not against us. That’s where understanding the balance between evergreen and trendy content becomes so important.

What is Evergreen Content?
Evergreen content is timeless. It’s the blog post, lead magnet, or video that will be just as valuable to your audience six months or even two years from now. It answers common questions, solves ongoing problems, and provides resources people are always searching for.

Examples include:
  • “How to Start Journaling as a Christian Entrepreneur”
  • “Beginner’s Guide to Pinterest Marketing”
  • “5 Ways to Avoid Burnout as a Solopreneur”
This type of content builds your foundation. It fuels your website, your Pinterest strategy, and your lead generation efforts because it keeps working in the background long after you hit publish.

What is Trendy Content?
Trendy content, on the other hand, thrives in the moment. It’s what gets people’s attention now, think of social media trends, reels, or posts tied to current events, seasons, or challenges. Trendy content is powerful for building connections and showing up in real-time with your audience.

Examples include:
  • A Facebook post about a recent viral audio clip
  • An Instagram Reel using a trending sound
  • A blog tied to a current event or seasonal theme
Trendy content is short-lived, but it humanizes you and helps your audience feel like they’re walking alongside you in real time.

Why You Need Both
Building a sustainable business requires a blend of both types of content. Evergreen content builds your authority and keeps your business growing long-term, while trendy content creates immediate engagement and helps people connect with your personality and story.

Think of evergreen content as the roots of your business; it keeps you grounded and growing steadily. Trendy content is the leaves and flowers; it changes with the seasons, adding beauty, freshness, and connection. You need both for a healthy, thriving brand.

How You Can Balance Evergreen & Trendy Content
When it comes to content, it’s easy to get stuck at one extreme: either chasing every trend and burning yourself out, or focusing so much on long-term content that you miss chances to connect in the moment. The key is balance, and finding a rhythm that actually works for you.

Here’s a simple way to think about it:
  • Evergreen Content (your foundation): Your blog posts, courses, Pinterest strategy, and free resources. These are the pieces that keep attracting new people to your business long after you publish them. Think of these as your long-term growth engines.

  • Trendy Content (your connection point): Your Facebook posts, Stories, Reels, or seasonal shares. These don’t last forever, but they build trust, relatability, and connection in real time. They give your audience a glimpse of who you are beyond your offers.

  • Your Balance: Instead of trying to document everything for the sake of social media (which can leave you exhausted, I know, because I’ve been there), focus on creating a rhythm. Maybe that looks like publishing one evergreen blog post per month and pairing it with consistent, lighter-touch posts on social media. Or it could mean repurposing your evergreen content into shorter, trendy pieces so you’re not reinventing the wheel every week.
The beauty of this balance is that you get the best of both worlds: the sustainability of evergreen content and the relatability of trendy content, without running yourself into the ground.

Where to Start (Without Overwhelm)
If you’re not sure how to balance evergreen and trendy content in your own business, don’t worry, you don’t need to figure it all out alone. The first step is creating clarity in your content strategy: knowing who you’re speaking to, what they need from you, and how you can serve them best. That’s exactly why I created the Lead Generation Blueprint.

This free guide will walk you step-by-step through creating a faith-centered content strategy that helps you:
  • Identify your ideal client and what they’re truly looking for
  • Create content that lasts (evergreen) while also connecting in the moment (trendy)
  • Develop a plan for lead generation that feels authentic and aligned with your values
  • Build a business rooted in clarity, confidence, and grace
Final Thoughts: Build with Intention
The key to content isn’t choosing between evergreen or trendy, it’s knowing how to use both with purpose. Evergreen content lays the foundation for long-term growth, while trendy content adds the connection and personality that builds trust. When you put them together, you create a strategy that’s sustainable, effective, and aligned with your values.
