Lies We Believe About Ourselves - and the Truth God Says Instead
Have you ever believed the lie that your dreams don’t matter to God? That your desires are too small, too selfish, or too far out of reach? That what you hoped for was somehow forgotten—or worse, dismissed? I have. And I carried that lie for a long time.

For as long as I can remember, I dreamed of being a stay-at-home mom. It was never just a “maybe someday” idea—it was the deepest desire of my heart. But in the fall of 2015, my husband and I received news that changed everything. We were told we wouldn’t be able to conceive children of our own. And in that moment, the dream I had carried since I was a little girl shattered in front of me

When the Dream Dies
I entered into a season of deep grief. It wasn’t just about the loss of a future child—it was the loss of an identity I had envisioned my entire life. I felt like something had been taken from me.
And for a long time, I believed that if that dream was gone, maybe my other dreams didn’t matter either. I stopped dreaming altogether. I questioned everything. And I silently began to believe one of the enemy’s most subtle lies: “Your dreams don’t matter to God.”

It’s a lie many of us carry. Especially as women. Especially when our stories don’t unfold the way we expected. Especially when the pain feels too personal, and the purpose feels unclear.

But God…

As time passed, I began to slowly heal. I allowed myself to process the grief, not rush past it or shove it down. I sat with God. I journaled. I wept. I wrestled. And eventually… I heard His whisper.
“Your dream to nurture, to impact, to make a difference—it still matters. And I’ve placed that desire in you for a reason.”

He didn’t dismiss my broken heart. He met me in it. And in the rubble of what I thought my life would look like, He started to build something new. Not a replacement dream.
But a redeemed one. A dream to speak the truth. To create beauty. To mentor women. To show up and shine light in places that feel dark.
God reminded me: my identity was never in the role I expected—it was in who I am in Him.

The Lies We Believe About Ourselves
The enemy loves to speak to our insecurities and heartbreak because he knows how powerful we are when we understand our true identity.

Some of the most common lies women in business (and life) silently carry:
  • “I’m not qualified.”
  • “Someone else is already doing it better.”
  • “I’m too late.”
  • “My story doesn’t matter.”
  • “I don’t have anything valuable to offer.”
  • “I have to prove myself.”
  • “My dreams are selfish.”
  • “My pain disqualifies me.”
  • “God must be disappointed in me.”
None of those are true. And here’s the truth we need to come back to again and again: “You don’t have to prove anything. You already belong.”

Your Identity Is Secure in Christ
If you’ve been caught in a swirl of lies or silent self-doubt, I want to gently remind you of who you really are:

  • You are chosen. (John 15:16)
  • You are called. (Romans 8:30)
  • You are God’s masterpiece. (Ephesians 2:10)
  • You are not disqualified by your pain - you are being positioned through it.
  • You don’t have to strive, prove, or earn your way to purpose.
  • And your dreams? The ones aligned with His heart? They still matter.
Even the dreams that look different now. Even the ones you grieved. Even the ones that seemed crushed by circumstances beyond your control. God is in the business of redemption.
He knows how to take heartbreak and weave purpose through it. He sees you. He hasn’t forgotten what you hoped for. And He’s still writing your story.

Reflection Questions
  1. What lies have I believed about myself or my dreams?
  2. Where have I placed my identity in roles or expectations instead of in Christ?
  3. What truth from God’s Word do I need to cling to in this season?
