Feeling under the weather is never enjoyable and it can make you feel sluggish, hopeless and unproductive. Self-Care is an important part of my daily and weekly routine, but it’s also become important when I am not feeling my best.
The past few days I’ve been struggling with the sniffles and some head and sinus pressure. I’ve been doing some thinking on best self-care practices when I don’t feel good. I think a few of my ideas can maybe spark some ideas of your own too. The most important thing to do is to listen to your body and just do what feels best for you.
1. Get Cozy and Rest: Put on your most comfiest clothes, grab your favorite blanket and allow yourself to rest. It’s important to get extra beauty sleep when you are feeling unwell. When you are resting or sleeping when you are feeling unwell your body goes to work to help your immune system fight whatever you are struggling with. Try to keep doing household chores to a minimum if possible as it might make you more exhausted. Ask for help from other family members or only focus one task (like the laundry for example).

2. Drink Plenty of Liquids: Your body can easily become dehydrated when you aren’t feeling so great. Drink plenty of water and add a drop or two of Lemon Vitality. This helps to gently cleanse your body, and it adds some yummy flavor to your water. Drinking tea is also a great way to relax and soothe the ickies away. My favorite tea is Thieves Tea. Steep your favorite tea and add a teaspoon of Honey, 1 drops Thieves Vitality and 2 drops Lemon Vitality.
3. Step Outside: If the weather permits, try to get outside and soak up some fresh air and sunshine. The fresh air is rejuvenating and it will lift your spirits. By sitting in the sun you are soaking up some much needed extra Vitamin D. If it’s the middle of winter it probably isn’t the best to get outdoors - try to sit by a window that shines some sunlight into your home.
4. Move Your Body: Here me out on this one - I know exercising is the last thing on your mind when you are sick. Gently moving your body and stretching is still so important though when you have the sniffles. My favorite way to move my body when I am not well is a yoga workout specifically made for when you don’t feel good. You can give it a try here. I love a good Yoga pillow specifically for this workout - makes it extra cozy and nurturing for your body.

5. Nourish Your Body: Growing up, anytime I wasn’t feeling good my mom would make me toast. It’s the #1 thing I crave when I don’t feel good. Although that is a simple thing to make when you aren’t feeling 100%, you still need to fuel your body with whole food nutrients. If you don’t have an appetite, don’t worry! Listen to your body and try to tune in to what it is needing. Protein and fruit smoothies are one of my go-to’s when I’m down with a cold. They are soothing on the throat and not overly filling to make you feel full.
6. Pamper Yourself: Enjoy binge watching that show you’ve been wanting to view, listening to a book on audible, or taking an Epsom salt bath with a few of your favorite essential oils. My favorite essential oils to pamper myself with when I‘m not feeling my best are Eucalyptus, Lavender and Raven. Those three really help me to breathe more easier.
