Harnessing the Power of Positive Thoughts for a Happier Life
Do you ever find yourself stuck in negative thought patterns that seem to drag you down? It's easy to get caught up in the things that go wrong in your life, but focusing on the positive can have a powerful impact on your well-being. In fact, research has shown that cultivating a positive mindset can lead to greater happiness, resilience, and even physical health benefits.

I'm sure you can relate, but I know for me, I can be my own worst critic. I can be so hard on myself and become easily discouraged when things don't go as planned...especially perfectly planned like I want them to. Phrases like, 'You just aren't good enough,' or 'You'll never get it,' or 'She is way more successful than you are!' float through my mind more often that I'd like to admit. Have you ever had similar thoughts like that too? No wonder we get so discouraged with ourselves.

How can we begin to harness the power of positive thoughts to create a happier, more uplifting life? Is it even possible? Here are some tips that have helped me in my personal growth and mindset journey that might just be helpful to you as well.

  1. Practice gratitude: Take time each day to reflect on the things you're thankful for. This can be as simple as jotting down a few things in a gratitude journal or silently acknowledging them in your mind.  One of the things I have come to love is taking gratitude walks in the afternoons. Around 2pm I get a little antsy from sitting at my desk so I'll get up and go for a short little walk around my neighborhood. While I am walking I make a list in my mind of all the little blessings that are happening in my life. I learned that tip from Jon Gordon in his book The Energy Bus.

  2. Flip the Script on Your Negative Thoughts: When negative thoughts pop up, try to flip them in a more positive light. For example, instead of thinking "I'm not good enough," try "I'm making progress and learning every day." Just that little switch in how you think or speak to yourself can make a huge difference and leave you feeling more uplifted and encouraged. What is a negative phrase you think about yourself? How can you flip it around so it is more positive for you? Use your journal to write out a few ideas.

  3. Surround yourself with positivity: Seek out positive people, media, and experiences that uplift and inspire you. This can include spending time with loved ones, reading uplifting books or articles, or engaging in hobbies that bring you joy. We live in such a fast paced world that it can be so easy to feel behind, out of the loop, or just bombarded with negativity or worrisome news. What are ways you can bring more joy into your life? Use this as a journaling prompt: What brings me joy? And how can I incorporate those things into my week even more?

  4. Practice mindfulness: Mindfulness involves being present in the moment and observing your thoughts without judgment. By practicing mindfulness, you can become more aware of negative thought patterns and learn to let them go. One of the ways that has been really helpful for me with practicing mindfulness is only focusing on ONE task at a time. As women, we are amazing at multitasking...but that doesn't always allow us to be present in our moments each day. I know there's a million things probably running through your mind each day, take time to begin your day with a little morning routine - to become more clear minded and focused on how you want to begin your day, your top 3-5 priorities within your day, and how you desire to be present with your family. But focusing on just a few things at a time, you'll actually be surprised how much productive and focused you will be.
By implementing these tips, you can start to shift your mindset towards the positive and reap the many benefits of a happier, more fulfilling life. So, start harnessing the power of positive thoughts today and see the difference it can make!
