Have you ever felt like you're running out of time in growing your business and reaching the destination you think you should have already reached in your career? Maybe you’ve thought, “I should have figured this out by now,” or “I must have missed what God had for me.” As I approach my 39th birthday, I’ve caught myself wrestling with those very thoughts. There’s this sneaky lie that whispers, It’s too late. You’ve missed it. You should be further along by now. The truth is that God’s timeline is not like ours, not even remotely. What feels late to us is right on time to Him.
Psalm 46:10 (NLT) says it best: “Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.” This verse has been an anchor for me in a season where I’ve been tempted to overthink, overwork, and overdo. It’s a reminder that God doesn’t need my hustle; He just wants my heart.
When Life Feels Overpacked
When Life Feels Overpacked
We live in a culture that praises productivity and glorifies busyness. Our days are packed to the brim with deadlines, family responsibilities, appointments, and to-do lists that seem to multiply overnight. And when we feel behind or overwhelmed, our first instinct is often to do more, to try harder, or to push further. But here’s what I’ve discovered: when I’m juggling everything and striving in my own strength, I end up exhausted, anxious, and disconnected from the Lord. The world tells us to keep hustling, but God calls us to be still.
Being still doesn’t mean we stop working or give up on what God has called us to. It means we pause to remember who’s really in control. It’s choosing to rest in His presence, invite Him into the details, and trust that His pace is better than ours.

The Fear of Missing Out on God’s Plan
If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably asked yourself: Did I miss something God had for me? Maybe you feel like you’re behind, like everyone else is moving forward while you’re stuck waiting. Sometimes it feels like there’s this invisible deadline for when things should happen: when your career should be established, when you should have achieved certain goals, when you should have “arrived.”
But God doesn’t operate on human deadlines. He is outside of time. God's plan for your life is not bound by your age, your timeline, or your expectations. In fact, Scripture is full of people who stepped into their calling later in life:
- Abraham and Sarah waited decades for the fulfillment of God’s promise.
- Moses didn’t lead the Israelites out of Egypt until he was 80 years old.
- Elizabeth became a mother to John the Baptist after years of waiting.
If God was faithful to them, He will be faithful to you. You haven’t missed your moment. God’s timeline for your life is unfolding exactly as He intends.

What It Means to Be Still
So, what does it actually look like to “be still and know that He is God”? For me, it starts with slowing down. It’s choosing not to fill every moment of my day with noise. It’s stepping away from my phone, turning off the endless scrolling on social media, and simply sitting with the Lord, my Bible, and my journal.
Being still looks like:
- Starting the day with prayer instead of email.
- Journaling with the Lord about my fears and dreams.
- Taking a walk (without my phone) and noticing His creation.
- Sitting in silence, even if it’s just for five minutes, and breathing deeply in His presence.
It’s in those still moments that I hear His whispers most clearly. It’s in the slowing down that my heart finds peace.
Let God Write Your Story
Let God Write Your Story
One of the most freeing truths I’ve learned is that God is the Author of my story. I don’t have to force it. I don’t have to strive to make things happen in my own strength.
He is the One who opens doors. He is the One who aligns opportunities. He is the One who knows the beginning, the middle, and the end. When we release our grip and let Him lead, life becomes less about hustling and more about stewarding. It’s not that we stop working; we still work hard and pursue excellence, but we do it with peace, knowing the results are in His hands.
Journaling Prompts for Trusting God’s Timeline
Journaling Prompts for Trusting God’s Timeline
If you’re in a season of waiting or wondering, journaling can be a powerful way to process your thoughts and realign your heart with God’s truth. Here are some prompts to guide you:
- Where in my life do I feel like I’m “behind”? What does God say about that?
- What would it look like for me to “be still” with God this week?
- How have I seen God’s timing prove better than mine in the past?
- What is one area of my life I need to release control of today?
- What Scripture can I cling to as a reminder that God is in control of my timeline?
As you work through these prompts, remember that journaling doesn’t have to be complicated, just honest. And if you’d love even more guidance, prompts, and tools to support your faith journey, visit my Journaling Store, where you’ll find resources designed to help you stay rooted in God’s presence through every season.

Final Thoughts: You are Right on Time
The Proverbs 31 woman reminds us that God values diligence, creativity, and excellence. Your work, whether it’s in your home, your business, or your side projects, matters deeply when it’s offered to Him. Don’t despise your gifts or underestimate your expertise. Pay attention to what others see in you. Keep moving forward when you make mistakes, invest in your growth, and most importantly, commit your Proverbs 31 Project to the Lord (which I share about in this blog post HERE).
