How Journaling Can Improve Your Mental Health & Well-Being
Are you feeling stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed? Do you wish you had a simple and effective tool to improve your mental wellness? Give journaling a try. This powerful practice can help you gain clarity on your thoughts and emotions, reduce stress and anxiety, and cultivate a more positive outlook on life. If you're ready to discover the transformative benefits of journaling for your mental wellness, I've got a few tips for you.

As a young girl, I remember my very first journal - it was a diary; and it was Tiffany blue with the cutest, chubby hamster on the cover. She was wearing a big, pink bow, wore glasses, and was holding a pencil. The diary also came with a lock and key, I thought that was SO cool because it meant it was top secret and only for me!

I journaled off and on throughout high school and college - mainly free writing my experiences, travel adventures, and quotes and Bible verses that I found encouraging. It wasn't until the Fall of 2015, while going through infertility and grief, that I became consistent with gratitude journaling. It was the beginning steps on my emotional healing journey and it changed me in so many beautiful ways. If you'd like you can read more of my story, HERE.

Journaling can be such a simple and powerful tool for improving your mental health and well-being. By putting pen to paper and expressing your thoughts and emotions, you can gain greater self-awareness, reduce stress and anxiety, and cultivate a more positive outlook on life. Here are some of the many ways that journaling can benefit your mental health:

  1. Clarify your thoughts and emotions: Writing down your thoughts and feelings can help you make sense of them and gain clarity on what's going on in your life. It's not always easy to express through writing how you are feeling or what you are going through, but it can be incredibly healing.

  2. Reduce stress and anxiety: Expressing your thoughts, worries, and fears in your journal can help you release them and feel grounded and calm. So often we let our worries swirl and ruminate in our mind - it creates mental clutter. By expressing yourself through your writing you are able to release those pent up thoughts and worries; which will help you gain more clarity and insight into anything that may be going on in your life.

  3. Boost your mood: Journaling about positive experiences and gratitude can help you focus on the good in your life and cultivate a more positive mindset. Gratitude in general just helps with flipping the negativity around in our life. Sure, there is bound to be discouragements and unexpected things that pop up in our day-to-day life...but blessings are still happening in and around you. Gratitude journaling can help you become more aware to them.

  4. Track your progress: By keeping a journal, you can track your progress over time and celebrate your successes. It amazes me when I go back to my very first gratitude journaling when I was struggling with grief, to my journal now in my present moment - the growth, insight, and emotional healing that has taken places is truly a blessing. There is hope and healing and even joy that can take place by being consistent with your journaling.

  5. Improve problem-solving skills: Journaling can help you think through problems and come up with creative solutions. It will provide you with insight, clarity and even new ideas and dreams.
